Case Study: Casey Volk

Casey Made Her First $1k Within a Month of Joining WP Rockstar!

  • First $1k client in less than a month
  • Quit her job and started her agency in less than a year

“I joined WP Rockstar less than a year ago. I was able to quit my job as a cocktail server, and now I am on the ropes to starting my own digital agency.”

Casey was a cocktail server before joining the program, and making good money from it. But she found herself dragging her feet to a job that didn’t offer her any fulfilment whatsoever. It wasn’t the career she was looking for.

She had done a course on local SEO before, and knew she wanted to work for herself. But there were missing pieces to get her business off the ground

That’s when a Facebook Ad popped up and caught her attention. She instantly identified with the struggles of building a website and clicked to learn more.

By joining WP Rockstar and the Rockstar community, Casey gained the confidence she was lacking. She started telling everyone she was a web developer and knew how to code.

After that, she hasn’t spent a single day serving cocktails!

“I've taken a lot of courses. This was the cheapest course that has given me the most value and content. And I am still shocked that it was at the price point that it's at.”

She made back her investment in the course in less than a month, by charging $1,000 for a website build. The second website she had ever built in her life. She also got a monthly retainer client for $300/month out of this build too.

The course also helped Casey have the right mindset to raise her rates and not be fearful of clients thinking her services were too expensive.

“Now I have the confidence to approach businesses that I don't know and tell them this is my rate. And if you don't like it, then you're not the client for me and that's ok.”

The huge amount of support in the Facebook Group was a nice surprise. There was always someone ready to help, within minutes (sometimes seconds) as she was going through the course content. Casey also connected with other WP Rockstar students and became Facebook friends.

“Julia's community was nothing like I expected at all. It was a nice surprise to see so much support.”

For the future, Casey envisions growing her business by hiring out tasks she’s not passionate about and opening her agency.

And we absolutely love having Casey in the community, watching and celebrating all of her amazing success.

If you, like Casey, would love to quit your day job to pursue a career you’re passionate about, we’d also love to support you through this journey!

How did you find out about WP Rockstar and GeekPack®?

So I found out about WP Rockstar and GeekPack®. I believe it was a Facebook ad actually that had popped up and it caught my attention because of Julia's video when she's blowing up a computer. And then I think it was really aside from the video it was the context underneath. I was like, Are you struggling to put together websites, et cetera, et cetera? And I was like, This is me. Yes. Tell me more. So of course, I clicked on the link yes.

What was life like before you joined WP Rockstar and get back.

So life for me, before GeekPack®, I was actually a full time cocktail server and I was making it was really good money but I can't stress this enough. There was no fulfillment to it whatsoever. You know, like every day I'd wake up and I was kind of just like dragging my feet and I knew that this wasn't my career. This is not what this was not fulfilling to me period at all. I had kind of in 20, 18 dabbled in a like local the generation SEO course that was pretty cool. But I was missing pieces like I couldn't connect anything I don't, I couldn't get my business off the ground. I didn't understand a lot. So that's why it was still cocktail theory, you know.

Did you know that you wanted to start an online business at this point or were you kind of brand new to the whole idea of working online.

Did I know if I wanted to start an online business of this time? Yes, I knew that I wanted to work for myself. I knew that I want to be my own boss, and I kind of wanted to do something with a computer. So I would say I had guides. I didn't have tools, if that makes sense. Or any way to like implement those tools. So, yeah, I mean, I was kind of wondering at this stage, I guess, if that makes sense.

What actions did you take as a result of joining the program and the community?

Oh gosh. The actions that I took as a result of joining the geek community, I slapped web developer and web designer onto my Facebook I started telling people that I am a coder and I understand PHP and I can't talk right now on the phone because I'm developing I would send screenshots of my code that I was working on. But since then, I mean, I haven't served another day pretty much in my life, cocktails. And that's kind of I guess now I've started my online business, you know, so people know me as the developer, the website developer.

Have you made back your investment?

Have I made back my investment? Yes, a hundred times. A thousand times. I don't even know what this small investment was for the quality of information and education that I got from Julia, cause. So I guess if you put that in there. No, because no amount of money can ever you know what I mean? Make up for what Julia has to offer. I swear, it's amazing. But yes, I did absolutely make back my money. So I'm just remembering you from the testimonial you wrote for us.

And I think you said you made back your investment or you landed your first bank client in a month. Is that right?

Yes. So for the course, it took me probably less than a month to a month max to on my first client, and I end up charging him $1,000 just for a website build. It was probably only my second website that I built. And then I put them on a monthly retainer. So it was huge, super huge. That is amazing.

We advocate a lot for raising your rates. Have you had any experience with that?

Have I had experience with raising my rates, absolutely. Julia course was amazing. It gave me kind of a mindset of where I need to go and and what I like doing. Now. I have the confidence to approach businesses that I don't know and tell them this is my rate. And if you don't like it, then you're not the client for me and that's OK. I never would have had that confidence without her course. So I love that attitude. That is exactly what you need to have. Like you're not. Totally.

Do you feel supported going through the content and in the community?

Do I feel supported wholly F-bomb? Yes, all the freaking time. I'm telling you, yes, 1000%. I mean, obviously we met via Facebook and we've had messages throughout the course, Julia. We've had small messages throughout the course, just like private Facebook. I've made some GeekPack® friends that were now Facebook friends. Any time I want to write in the Facebook group, there's a response within minutes, seconds, almost, you know, depending on what time. But does it matter what time? There's always support. So absolutely.

Was a community something you were looking for, but did you know you needed that or was it kind of like a just a nice surprise.

Was the community something I was looking for? Yes, only because I took the previous course, the lead generation course. And I was like OK, I see where this Facebook group is. So I need this in my learning process. But Julia's community was nothing that I expected at all. So that was a nice surprise to see so much freaking support amazing.

And we love supporting you. It's great success that you have just as I'm curious and I know there's a lot of content in the program, do you have a favorite part of it?

A favorite part of the course for me. There's so much good stuff in there. I don't I don't know what to tell you, so I'll say the beginning was fun. It definitely was challenging because it's uncomfortable. All right. So the first part of learning to make something out of absolutely nothing in HTML I think that it was the actual building of the website. My favorite, favorite part was when it clicked for me after, I was like, I don't think I can be a web developer. And then I found out Julie, it's like, Oh, no, this is just to make you comfortable with the backend people don't actually really do this all the time unless you want to. There's easier ways, but now you're comfortable. And I was like, Yeah, that's I got it. I got it. Yeah. Yeah. The building from scratch is, is not fun, but it is definitely building. 1000%. And I think that's what I learned from it was confidence, you know? And I'm like, I'm not going to get this code. I don't understand it. It was the confidence booster for sure.

Do you think the program and the community in general has helped with your confidence as a developer?

Has the program helped? With my confidence as a program developer? 1000%. 1000% for sure.

What are your future plans now that you've gone through the course?

Oh, gosh, OK, so as I was going my future plans as I was going through the course, I had several website build outs and I realized for me it's not my favorite part. I would love to hire people who love just doing web design, which was great for me. So my next steps are actually opening my agency. So I'm going to be more of the project manager and then hire really good people to do front end to do backend, to do ad management, to do social media management. So that's what I'm planning on doing. Slash have been up to what's insane.

So I guess you joined less than a year ago. You've managed to quit your job and start an agency in less than a year.

That's me. Yes, yes. Or at least, I mean, definitely do have the confidence to to go this route or to figure this route out and be so passionate every single day. Like I dream about it. I think about it like when I'm eating, you know what I mean? I can't wait for my husband to go to work so that I can just start making my business, doing my business or developing. So that is so cool. Do you mind just because that's really powerful summarizing that sentence for me. Yeah. Which part? That I can't wait for my husband to leave. Now that you joined less than a year ago, you managed to quit your job and now you're going to start an agency. Yes. So I joined GeekPack®k less than a year ago. I was able to quit my job as a cocktail server, and now I am on the ropes to starting my own digital agency. This is amazing. Can we just hang out all day and talk this. And we totally get. OK? So another really important question.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about joining WP Rockstar?

If you're on the fence about joining GeekPack®k, think about if you've ever had an interest in developing websites, if you have join, if you have it. I'm going to tell you right now, I've taken a lot of courses this was the cheapest course that has given me the most value and content. And I am still shocked that it was at the price point that it's at. So take it while it's hot. You have you will lose nothing. You I think Julia gives like a 30 day money. Are you kidding me? Take the freaking. Course. I think I finished it and maybe a week, two weeks. But I was just hammering it out. It was. That's all I did. You have nothing to lose, so take it how cool. Powerful words I love how decisive you are you're like 1000%. Just do it. Totally.

In terms of feedback. I mean, I have obviously there's nothing negative to say something that I love about your course. I have to say this about Julie, of course, only because I took a different course in other courses, the first generation course that I took. I don't think that this woman was out to just give information freely. Julia gives her information freely, and I think that's why she is so successful, because she genuinely wants you to succeed. Right. So I took Julia's course and she gives you options for the free route, right? So it's not like, here's the cost of my course. And then on top, you have to pay X amount you're probably going to need this tool you. And it's going to be, you know, you pay that price and that's it. You can get your, your agency started from that cost of up Julia's course, and that's it. That's all you need. So thank you guys for that. There's no hidden surprises in it whatsoever. So I love that amazing.
